Our Trust
Sedley’s Church of England School joined as a member of Aletheia Academies Trust in 2022.
Aletheia Trust’s Vision
Aletheia schools are motivated by our vision and values to serve our communities by improving the life chances of local children. Aletheia schools welcome those of all faiths and none and are proud of the inclusive nature and diversity of each cohort of children. Our schools seek to embody the experience of community and collaboration, where talents are shared, where the emphasis is on what can be contributed and where each is given according to need.
At the heart of the Aletheia vision is the belief in educational and individual excellence and the belief that Aletheia is called to serve our local communities, now and for the future. We will do this by providing safe places where children, young people and adults develop and thrive intellectually, socially, physically, culturally, spiritually and emotionally.

Aletheia Trust’s Objectives
Aletheia is committed to sustaining high-quality schools, and supporting schools in need of specific improvement in some of the more challenging wards in Kent. Our focus is to provide school improvement services that draw on the wealth of practice from across our trust, broaden the expertise available to schools through flexible working arrangements and increase our capacity to quickly respond to the needs of individual schools. Pedagogical excellence is at the heart of all we do with a sustained focus on collaborative and mastery learning.
Belonging to a local Trust offers greater opportunities for influence than single schools can achieve: working together the Trust aims to be greater than the sum of its constituent schools. We see the growth of Aletheia as an opportunity for schools, leaders and governors to step forward as co-shapers of a school-led and self-improving system in our area. The trust offers our distinctive ethos, the strength of leadership and commitment to working collaboratively to ensure all our schools are outstanding.

Why Sedley’s Joined Aletheia Academies Trust
The governors have considered all their options over many years and unanimously agreed that Aletheia is the right choice. There are 2 fundamental reasons for this:
- The strong Christian ethos of the Trust is important to Sedley’s as it is core to Sedley’s ethos and values, dating back to 1637 when the school was first founded. Aletheia is the right fit and will understand that ethos and the link with the Church.
- Aletheia is a local Trust with a local community of schools in the same area as Sedley’s. This reinforces the existing importance the Sedley’s places on the community. It is also practical for staff and children to move around the Trust to maximise the benefits of shared training and resources etc.
However, as strong and obvious as those 2 points are on their own, it is deeper than just that. Sedley’s are already seeing the benefits of strong senior leadership through the Head of School and Executive Head from the Trust that are currently supporting Sedley’s. Sedley’s are on a journey of transformation and the Trust leadership has been very strong in supporting that, bringing the existing Sedley’s staff team on board while raising teacher standards. Permanent access to a pool of high quality future Heads is key to Sedley’s. As a small school, Sedley’s is likely to need a new Head every 4-5 years (you would expect this to be the right job as a first Head role and then a good Head would want to move on to a new challenge). Continuity of a high quality Head is the largest risk for governors of a small primary school. Joining Aletheia fully de-risks this for Sedley’s. It will give the school stability and continuity in leadership while also continuing our journey to raise the quality of the experience for our children.
