Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

SEND Coordinator: Nikki Sands

‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’ underpins all that happens here at Sedley’s, which includes the work we do and the opportunities we provide for children that may need additional support. All God’s children are valued and by providing a broad and balanced curriculum for all, and by working closely with parents, we can help all children to succeed.  All pupils have the right to a high-quality education, no matter what challenges they may face.  Inclusion is an integral part of what we do and is continually and closely monitored and evaluated.

As a SENDco, Jayne ensures that everyone is getting what they need in order to be successful, as well as ensuring that parents are fully informed about the SEND agenda and processes. Jayne is available to listen to any concerns you might have about your child’s progress and by working together we can support all of our children in order that they reach their full potential during their time at Sedley’s!

If you would like to discuss any concerns about your child’s progress, or you have any questions at all please get in touch at 01474 833 221 or by email on  headteacher@sedleys.kent.sch.uk

How do we provide support for SEND pupils?

Quality First Teaching is crucial in the support of pupils with SEND.  Teachers make use of the Mainstream Core Standards to support their practice so that strategies, resources and interventions are used to maximum effect.  The Mainstream Core Standards documents below explain what schools must do to support children and young people with SEND so that they are included in all aspects of school life, make progress and are happy in school.

We also make use of a wide range of interventions to support children.

  • English and Maths interventions/small group work.
  • Feedback/catch-up sessions for individuals or small groups.
  • Lego therapy
  • Social Skills
  • Teaching Assistant support in class.
  • Sensory Space
  • Busy Fingers/fine motor control.
  • Memory intervention
  • Speech and language interventions.
  • Colourful Semantics
  • BEAM
  • Sensory Circuits

We also liaise with a range of outside agencies to access further support beyond the Mainstream Core Standards.

  • LIFT (Local Inclusion Forum Team)
  • Specialist teaching service
  • Speech and Language Therapy service
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Community Paediatrics
  • Early Help.
  • Virtual Schools
